AMNESTY TRUTH SHEET

The Truth About Amnesty
Amnesty overlooks the alien's illegal entry and ongoing illegal presence and creates a new legal status that allows the recipient to live and work in the country.

U.S. Senate

Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007
This is the highly controversial 'compromise' immigration reform bill that failed in the Senate. It drew more criticism than support from all sides in the debate.

Get the 790-page bill, S. 1348.

The Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration
Reform Act of 2007

This is the "security-first" bill that was designed to draw more votes for comprehensive immigration reform. It failed a critical vote in the Senate.

GAO Testimony

Prospects For Biometric US-VISIT Exit Capability Remain Unclear
DHS has invested about $1.3 billion over 4 years and delivered basically one-half of US-VISIT, meaning that biometrically enabled entry capabilities are operating at almost 300 air, sea, and land POEs, but comparable exit capabilities are not. Moreover, the prospects for this changing are essentially as uncertain today as they were 4 years ago.

CBO Testimony

Budgetary Impact of Current and Proposed Border Security and Immigration Policies
CBO estimates that implementation of S.2611 would require $81 billion in additional appropriations over the 10-year period, resulting in $78 billion in added outlays. Economic growth would increase by only a small degree.

Virginia Divided Over Illegal Alien Criminals - Governor Still Thinks It's a Federal Problem
Virginia is a state divided over how to battle illegal immigration and our broken borders. The Democratic governor and the Republican attorney general have opposing views over how to enforce laws regarding illegal aliens. The attorney general is taking a hard line, but the governor says immigration laws are a federal responsibility. But a new report finds that as many as one in 10 jail inmates in Virginia has questionable legal status and is believed to be an illegal alien. That works out to some 21,000 inmates commonly held for alcohol-related crimes like DUI. Taxpayers are footing the bill. Each one costs $23,000 a year, according to the Virginia State Crime Commission. But because immigration falls under federal jurisdiction, little has been done. Democratic Governor Tim Kaine opposes using state troopers as immigration officers. A spokesperson said state agencies, including the Department of Corrections and State Police, are already undermanned: "The governor doesn't want to expand their responsibility in a significant way at this time in an area everyone agrees is a federal responsibility." Immigration reform groups say states have to confront the mounting price of illegal immigration. William Buchanan, Legislative Director, American Council for Immigration Reform, noted: "The costs of illegal immigration are very substantial. You have hospital costs. You have schooling costs. If Mr. Kaine is worried about his budget, he ought to be thinking about the effects of illegal immigration on all of those areas."  See the CNN Lou Dobbs video...

Chief Says Border Security Not Possible before 2013
As the Senate's immigration reform efforts were collapsing, members of Congress heard a bleak assessment of the future of border security, the Border Patrol saying a secure border is six years away. Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar said: "The borders are broken. But there was a long time in getting there." Aguilar told a congressional conference on U.S.-Mexico border issues that the border won't be secured before 2013. That's when the secure border initiative, including manpower, technology and infrastructure, is scheduled to be complete. Until then, Aguilar says the Border Patrol must manage the expectations of the country. He said: "Too often, we hear, well, gee, if you're going be at 18,000 agents -- and we will be, 18,319 by the end of calendar year '08 -- you should have the border solved. That's not the case. We're going to be working towards solving the border. We will be implementing SBInet, but there's a maturation process." The border conference took place as the Senate was considering the immigration reform bill.   June 8, 2007

CNN Lou Dobbs - video:
New "Z" Visa Would Overwhelm USCIS
The new Z visa under consideration in the Senate's "comprehensive immigration reform" bill would be available only to illegal aliens. They could work, live and travel freely. Awarded a Social Security number and protected from deportation, at least 12 million illegal aliens could apply for the Z visa. Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said: "There's no way the USCIS can handle this kind of backlog. They've got a tremendous backlog today that they can't deal with, and we're dumping heaps more on top of them as we speak."   May 29, 2007

Observation post used to guide drug smugglers into the U.S. NumbersUSA:
How Mexican Cartels Continue to Win the 'War on Drugs'
Mexican cartels have set up Listening Posts and Lookout Posts (LP/OPs) for at least 200 miles into U.S. soil. These posts are manned by heavily armed and dangerous Mexicans who have military and police training. With plenty of photographs, this 35-slide Powerpoint carefully documents these LP/OPs and how they are used to guide the safe delivery of drugs into our country. The presentation is based on data gathered from several U.S. agencies and even includes the GPS coordinates of the LP/OP locations. If this information is known to U.S. authorities, you're probably wondering why these posts are allowed to continue operating. The answer offered in this presentation is the same tired excuse we've heard so many times before: "It's a matter of priorities." You can view this presentation as a PDF or Powerpoint. You are encouraged to download the PowerPoint and show it at your next meeting. VDARE says they have tried to interest the mainstream media in doing a story about this, but to no avail. With this much evidence, it's hard to understand why ...   January 2007
